Tours and Safaris in South Africa
\r\nYou’ve been on one...you’ve been on all...?
There are so many different companies offering Safaris and Tours to wildlife parks, historical sites, places of entertainment and the like that it is a fair question for the prospective tourist to ask whether there are any REAL difference between them – or if one should simply go for the cheapest option?
\r\nWhat can REALLY make one company a better choice than the next?
\r\nHere are a few pointers:
\r\n• Catering for individual requirements
\r\n• Attention to detail
\r\n• Quality, knowledge and experience of guides
\r\n• Intimate knowledge of different areas (from the inside, not the outside)
\r\n• Choice of destinations
\r\n• Additional Services
\r\n• Passion
Bono Tours & Safaris specialize in tailored Tours and Safaris, specifically designed to suit diverse and different individual needs. Our main concern is to ensure that ALL our guests are TOTALLY satisfied, by exceeding their most ambitious expectations.
\r\nOur main focus is on Wildlife Safaris, with some significant factors enhancing the Total Customer Experience:
\r\n
• All our guides can boast a National Diploma in Tourism and Conservation, and have years of experience working in Big Five environments like the world famous Kruger National Park and Pilanesberg National Park. They will astound you with their valuable and entertaining knowledge about wildlife in the area you are visiting – but not only the wildlife aspect: South Africa is internationally renowned for its cultural diversity and historical background; and also in these areas our guides will exceed any expectations you may have.
\r\n• Because Bono Tours & Safaris believe in inside information as opposed to acquired knowledge, we use indigenous African knowledge – meaning that guides know the area they are guiding you through from the inside, as a part of it; not from the perspective of an outsider (in some respects a tourist himself). By way of example: Our Sowetan tours are guided by people who are long-standing residents of Soweto, not outsiders who are not part of the “vibe” of the place.
\r\n• The choice of activities and destinations is frankly staggering:
\r\nTour Packages:
\r\nPilanesberg National Park, Kruger National Park, Thornybush Game Reserve and other areas.
Day Tours:
\r\nSoweto Township, Lesedi Cultural Village, Kruger National Park, Pretoria City, Gold Reef City and other area.
Sun City:
\r\nDay tour and overnight Packages
Additional Services offered
\r\n• Panorama Route Tour
\r\n• Private Lodges in Kruger National Park
\r\n• Madikwe Game Reserve
\r\n• Train Tours and Safaris
\r\n• Car Hire
\r\n• Airport Transfers
\r\n• Sabi Sabi Game Reserve
Passion
\r\nThe norm for the quality of guides is set by the owner of Bono Tours and Safaris – Robert Mashau.
\r\nAs a student (Pretoria Technikon studying Nature Conservation), Robert already showed his interest in matter cultural and historical by working as a volunteer at the Transvaal Museum.
\r\nIn the late nineties, he was employed at the Kruger National Park as an Interpretative Officer in the Department of Social Ecology; and at the turn of the century, still at Kruger National Park, he became a Field Guide - doing game drives, acting as back-up on day walks, and also carrying responsibility at the information desk, and for the maintenance of vehicles.
\r\nTowards the end of 2000 he took up a position as Field Guide at Gametrackers, Pilanesberg National Park, being promoted to Senior Filed Guide in 2003.
\r\nIn 2005 he became a Field Guide at Golden Leopard Resorts, Pilanesberg National Park, holding this position until starting Bono Tours & Safaris in 2006.
\r\nTo answer the original question:
\r\nNot all Tours and Safaris in South Africa are the same.

The newly built museum will take you to the journey of the rise and fall apartheid. Here you’ll walk through the exhibition which includes the film footage, photos, text panels and artifacts illustrating the vents and human stories behind apartheid. Few hours at the Apartheid Museum you will feel that you were in the townships in the 70s and 80s, dodging police bullets or teargas canisters, or marching and toy-toying with thousands of school children, or carrying the body of a comrade into a nearby house. This extraordinarily powerful museum has already become the city''s leading tourist attraction, an obligatory stop for visitors and residents alike.

SOWETO. It sounds like a delightful African name, but the word is actually an acronym for South Western Townships. It is a sprawling township, or more accurately, a cluster of townships on the south-western flank of Johannesburg. Soweto was created in the 1930s, with Orlando the first township established. In the 1950s, more black people were relocated there from ''black spots'' in the inner city - black neighbourhoods which the apartheid government had reserved for whites. Soweto''s growth was phenomenal - but unplanned. Despite government attempts to stop the influx of black workers to the cities, waves of migrant workers moved from the countryside and neighbouring countries to look for employment in the city of gold.
\r\nWith a population of over 2 million, the township is the biggest black urban settlement in Africa with a rich political history. Soweto was the centre of political campaigns aimed at the overthrow of the apartheid state. The 1976 student uprising, also known as the Soweto uprising, started in Soweto and spread to the rest of the country. Many of the sights on the heritage route therefore have political significance.
\r\nSoweto tour includes a visit to the informal settlement, Nelson Mandela’s house, Regina Mundi’s church, Kliptown and Hector Pieterson Memorial Museum.

Fifty kilometers west of the Johannesburg, among nondescript koppies, scattered shrubs and trees, is a 47 000 hectare valley known as the Cradle of Humankind. Three million years of human activity have taken place in and around these caves, including man''s earliest-known mastery of fire, and forty percent of the entire world''s human ancestor fossils have been found here. You can discover the area yourself, by taking your own custom-made tour of the area. The biggest and best-known of the caves is Sterkfontein, where over 500 hominid fossils and over 9 000 stone tools have been found. It was at Sterkfontein that two major finds were made, that have changed modern paleontology: Mrs. Ples and Little Foot.
\r\nMaropeng, which is a Setswana word meaning ‘returning to the place of our origins’, takes visitors on a fun and informative journey of discovery using spectacular methods to tell stories of the evolution of life and the origins of humankind. It denotes the universal relevance of the Cradle of Humankind as the ancestral home of all, no matter what colour, culture or creed.

The De Wildt Cheetah and Wildlife Trust has received world-wide acclaim for the success of its cheetah and wild dog captive-breeding programmes. Unique management techniques developed over the years have resulted in the birth of over 750 cheetah cubs and more than 500 wild dogs, as well as numbers of other rare species such as brown hyaena, suni antelope, red and blue duiker and riverine rabbit.
\r\n
The De Wildt Cheetah and Wildlife Centre is a Cites (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species) approved breeding centre and collaborates with the University of Pretoria''s Veterinary Faculty, the Mammal Research Institute, the Agricultural Research Council and the Department of Environment and Tourism.
\r\nOther holding facilities for De Wildt''s captive cheetahs are the De Wildt-Shingwedzi Wildlife Ranch (near Bela Bela), Cheetah Outreach (Cape Town), the National Zoological Gardens (Pretoria) and the Munda Wanga Sanctuary (Lusaka, Zambia). As the first breeder of the rare king cheetah, the Centre has ended decades of speculation that the king was a separate species: it has proved that genetically the king is a true cheetah, but with a variation of coat pattern and colouring.

\r\nGuests are met upon arrival at OR Tambo International Airport then transferred to Kapama River Lodge. Kapama River Lodge is situated within Kapama Game Reserve, and presents the perfect blend between luxurious safari accommodation and a generous bed capacity of 42 bedrooms. Although large, it is so stylish and roomy and beautifully positioned along a dry riverbed, that guests fall in love with it.Each spacious room at Kapama River Lodge features a full en-suite bathroom and terrace with uninterrupted views into the leafy-green Big 5 game reserve. The central guest entertainment areas include a large rim-flow swimming pool with sun umbrellas and recliners for lazy afternoons. The long L-shaped relaxation lounge and bar under a double-volume thatch, curves around the pool and on either side is a huge double-sided fireplace creating a wondrous open-plan yet cosy atmosphere. The Rhino Boma dining area with tables arranged under a low thatch in a horseshoe curve, has a central open space where a roaring outdoor fire gives a glow to evening meals. Buffet-style meals introduce African flavours with Pan African dishes using fresh local ingredients and specialist dishes featuring venison like kudu and impala.
\r\n
Kapama River Lodge extends itself with its different dining venues:
\r\nRhino Boma is the most popular buffet dinner venue where a delicious variety of dishes is eaten under an open-sided thatch around a crackling fire. The Riverbed is a romantic place to dine, with a star-studded African night sky above you and the sand of the dry riverbed beneath you.
\r\nGame drives:
\r\nTwo daily game drives are part of the fully inclusive tariff and your skilled ranger and tracker do their best to find the animals of Africa for you to admire.
\r\nExpect a wake up call at between 5am and 5.30am and gather for tea or coffee and rusks before heading out at first light. If you are lucky, the big cats will still be around after their night of hunting. This is Big 5 country (Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Rhino and Buffalo) all of which are possible to see during a two-day safari in Kapama Game Reserve.
\r\nThere are also many other species to be seen, large and small, as well as fascinating plants and colourful birds. Stop halfway through the morning game drive for hot drinks and rusks from the Landrover snack box and return at around 9am for breakfast. During the rest of the day, you are likely to see wildlife like nyala antelope and vervet monkeys around the lodges.
\r\nAt about 3.30pm everybody convenes for high tea, before departing with the same ranger/tracker team for the day’s second African bush safari. Enjoy a sundowner drink along the way (not included in the tariff), and get out of the vehicle to stretch your legs and watch the sun go down over the distant Drakensberg Mountains.
\r\n
\r\nAs darkness descends it’s time to return to the safety of the Landrover and let the tracker scan the landscape with a spotlight picking out the glinting eyes of nocturnal animals. Return to the lodge at around 7pm, where there is time to freshen up before dinner.
Welcome drinks will be served on arrival.

Since 1978 Sabi Sabi has hosted visitors from all over the world, drawn to this unique area by the promise of the safari experience of a lifetime. Sabi Sabi Private Game Reserve, situated in the world-renowned 65000 hectare Sabi Sand Wildtuin in the South-Western section of the Kruger National Park, is a wildlife oasis, where you can observe at close quarters the age-old natural relationship between predator and prey.
\r\nBig game abounds and roams freely throughout this pristine part of the ancient African continent. The diverse habitat is home to spectacular wildlife including the Big 5 - lion, leopard, rhino, buffalo and elephant - as well as cheetah, wild dog and some 200 other animal species indigenous to the area.
\r\nThere is nothing quite as stirring as the sight of a lion, elephant or rhino roaming free in the bush; as haunting as the sound of a hyaena laughing in the dead of night; as electrifying as the tension one feels when following spoor along a dry riverbed. This is what makes the Sabi Sabi experience so memorable. Day and night safaris in open Land Rovers, led by highly trained Game Rangers and qualified Trackers, follow the animals on and off-road, deep into the heart of the wild African Bushveld. Walking safaris allow guests to feel the pulse of untamed Africa through the soles of their feet.
\r\nSabi Sabi is also home to a remarkable 350 species of birds. On a single summer''s day, a visitor from the Northern Hemisphere will probably see more bird species than he is likely to see in a lifetime in his home country. In fact, almost 5% of the world''s bird species have been recorded in this region of South Africa.
\r\nSabi Sabi offers four completely separate luxurious, all-suite, award-winning lodges with very distinct characters and atmospheres - those of "Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow" which is encapsulated in the "Yesterday" experience at the romantic Selati Bush Camp; "Today" at the more contemporary lodges of Bush Lodge and Little Bush Camp and "Tomorrow" at the ground-breaking Earth Lodge. Sabi Sabi daily rates are per person per night sharing, fully inclusive of open Land Rover safaris by day and at night, environmental awareness walking safaris as well as delectable meals, local alcohol, house wines, mineral water and soft drinks.

\r\nWild life and Adventure activities:
\r\nSafaris:
\r\nThe Sun City Resort has a unique heartbeat and African rhythm of its own and is unlike any other Resort destination in the world. This is pure fantasy and your every desire is met. Adjoining the Resort, is the beautiful Pilanesberg National Park, which will delight game viewers as it is a malaria free zone and home to the Big 5. There are several wildlife options for guests to choose from.
\r\nHot Air Ballooning:
\r\nMany guests enjoy the romance of traditional balloon safaris. The Pilansberg is one of the few reserves in South Africa with perfect conditions for balloon safaris. Flights leave early morning and include an itinerary of balloon launch, an hour of drifting over the reserve, a sparkling wine celebration on landing, a full English breakfast and a ‘first-flight’ certificate.
\r\nElephant-Back Safaris:
\r\nLumbering silently through the bush, you will ride atop a family of mighty African elephants. These gentle giants will take you on an unforgettable journey. The exhilaration of the experience is walking through the bush as part of the wildlife. The Elephant Back Safari experience is more than just an elephant ride. Guests are encouraged to interact with the elephants. Game viewing from the back of an elephant has several advantages, not the least of which is that the resident wild life is unaware of the human presence. Safaris are conducted in the early morning and sundown allowing the elephants to feed naturally through the bush between activities, interacting with the other wild animals, swimming in the waterholes and allowing ample time for the elephants to do "elephant things". In addition to the morning and afternoon elephant back safaris, the guests are also offered a lunch and interaction with the elephants.
\r\nArchery
\r\nDiscover this ancient art that conjures up images of William Tell, the Roman Empire and Scottish highlanders. Archers of yesteryear used rudimentary equipment whereas today the equipment is more modern and sophisticated. At the Sun City Adventure Centre modern recurve bows and contemporary equipment such as compound bows and powerful crossbows are used. Archery is about muscle discipline, eye dominance, and accuracy. Target practise makes perfect or so the experts say.

Enjoy the interactive rhythms of Africa by taking part in a drum circle and learn to play the Djembe Drum. Music is the universal language, and drumming is the bridge between spectator and participant. It''s primal, heartfelt pulse stirs the senses, making your foot tap in time to the beat. Anyone can be a competent drummer with almost no prior experience. Drumming brings people together who share the connection of making music together. The Adventure Centre offers guests an excellent manner of communing with a group of people, enjoying the energetic rhythms of Africa.
\r\nThe Quad Bike
\r\nQuad Bikes are rough and ready vehicles that excel at tackling hard terrain and the bushveld. They handle the arid and volcanic landscape of the Pilanesberg and allow adventurers to explore hidden crevices and ravines that are inaccessible on foot. The adventure trail takes about an hour and a highly skilled guide conducts the trail through Letsatsing Game Park with the possibility of seeing Rhino, Giraffe and other animal species on route. Internationally accepted safety standards apply and no previous experience is needed as instruction in handling the vehicle forms part of the package. The adventure is not available to anyone under 16. There is a fully supervised circuit event for youngsters.
\r\nClay Target Shooting
\r\nAn elegant and noble sport that becomes addictive as you master the art. The Cascades Hotel in Sun City, South Africa is a sophisticated and elegant hotel with lush gardens, tropical birds and water features. The Cascades Hotel is the grand old lady of Sun City, and still retains a timeless elegance. Understandably the Cascades Hotel is often the favorite hotel amongst visitors who knows Sun City Very well. All the rooms at The Cascades face the tropical splendour of the Cascades Hotel’s gardens and pools. There are 7740 square metres of water features, including 12 man made waterfalls and cataracts. These beautiful gardens at The Cascades Hotel offer unparalleled seclusion and escape from the hustle and bustle of the rest of Sun City.
\r\nAccommodation:
\r\nThe 243 rooms at the Cascades Hotel have en suite bathrooms, TV, radio, air-conditioning, telephone and minibar. Luxury rooms and suites have spa baths. Suites have private patios, sitting rooms and bar areas. The Presidential suite at the Cascades Hotel is even equipped with its own jacuzzi.
\r\nDinning at the Cascades Hotel:
\r\nThe Peninsula Restaurant at the Cascades Hotel has an international dinner menu and a resident pianist. It is from this restaurant at Sun City that a full continental buffet is served at breakfast time. Lighter food is served at the Fishmonger Restaurant. Cocktails and bar service can be enjoyed at the Vistas Bar which has a view of the mountains and valleys surrounding Sun City. Pre dinner drinks at The Cascades Hotel can be ordered at the Peninsula Bar.
\r\nThe Grotto restaurant has been revolutionised. The Mediterranean restaurant now named Santorini, is surrounded by glass windows providing an all season enclave, harbouring guests during winter. Alfresco dining takes place along the island promenade and delightful gazebo’s offer shaded areas where guests can relax informally and enjoy a delectable meal.
\r\n
\r\nWild life and Adventure activities:
Safaris:
\r\nDrumming
\r\nFor centuries drumming has formed part of the African culture. Rituals, celebrations, funerals, healing and initiation ceremonies are marked by the rhythmic beat of drums.
You will be surprised at the ease with which you become proficient in shooting the clay targets out of the sky, even when they are propelled into the air from different directions at quicker intervals. Instructors guide participants and there is no need for previous experience. This is restricted to 20 participants at a time. Clay Target shooting is extremely popular with companies organizing corporate events or team building events.

The Lodge:

Thakadu River Camp is a wholly-owned Community-based Tented Safari Camp within Madikwe Game Reserve. The Tented Camp, located on the banks of the Marico River, is an ecotourism partnership between North-West Parks, the Molatedi Community and the operator, The Madikwe Collection. The community has a 45-year lease to operate a commercial lodge with traversing rights across the Reserve. The concept is unique in South Africa in that the community owns the development, with substantial benefits accruing to the community itself.
\r\nThakadu River Camp consists of 12 tented suites, each with their own viewing deck overlooking the river. The tents are spacious and are superbly decorated and appointed. 4 of the tents are set to one side and make up Little Thakadu which is perfect for families or small groups of up to 8 people. This lodge has a phenomenal atmosphere due to the foundations upon which it is built and the gratitude of the community which it is helping to build.
\r\nAccommodation
\r\nThakadu River Camp has 12 tented suites. They are large and spacious and are wonderfully decorated and appointed. Within the canvas frame, the interior is uniquely designed to incorporate a full bathroom. Each tent has a sliding door that opens onto a private deck overlooking the river. Of the 12 tented suites, 4 are family units, each with an extra sleeper couch catering for children.
\r\nFacilities
\r\nThe main camp is located between the Marico River and a small tributary of the Marico. The main area comprises an open plan lounge, dining and reception area, with the pool and bar area offering views of the gully and river to the north. A traditional ‘lapa’ falls within a glade of natural riverine forest. The décor of the camp has a strong Afro-Asian Safari ambience to it, with use of natural stone, fibres, cloth and carpets as well as metal and wood featuring prominently throughout the camp. The influence of the river is very apparent, with the trees, birds and water providing a peaceful and tranquil mood within the camp.
\r\nSafaris
\r\nMadikwe is home to a tremendous diversity of fauna and flora, including both black and white rhino, buffalo, elephant, lion, leopard, cheetah and wild dog. The camp is a superb walking and open vehicle safari destination where guests are accompanied by well-trained and informative rangers who are able to interpret the many encounters whilst on safari. Other activities include tracking, stargazing, bush dining and birding.
\r\nWHAT TO TAKE
\r\nWalking shoes, sun hat, sunglasses, sun block, cameras, binoculars, light clothing and bathing suit in summer and warm clothing and jackets in winter. Please also bring a warm rain jacket in summer as the evening drives in open vehicles can get rather cold. As the camp is located on the river it can be extremely cold in the middle of winter. Whilst the lodge has taken every precaution to ensure your comfort we would advise to bring extra clothing for the evenings.
\r\nCHILDREN
\r\nThe camp caters for children. We do however recommend that children under the age of 6 years do not go on game drives. We have four tented suites catering for families where a Queen-size sleeper couch is available for children.

THE LODGE:
The 5-star Tuningi Safari Lodge is set in a valley on the western side of the Madikwe Game Reserve. The theme of the interiors is "Colonial African Chic" and the main thatched lodge offers beautiful indoor and outdoor lounges, an elegant dining room and a magnificent rim flow pol that overlooks a waterhole. this is all interlinked by a sweeping, wooden deck that leads to a boma under an ancient fig tree, perfect for dinners around a blazing fire. Tuningi is one of the very few 5-star lodges in South Africa that welcomes children and by doing so, avails them to the wonders of nature, wildlife and our delicate eco-system. Daily game drives in open 4x4 vehicles allow guests to sense the excitement of the African bush. Lion, elephant, bufalo, white and black rhino, leopard and the rare and endangered wild dog are only some of the sightings to be experienced during your stay.
\r\nACCOMMODATION
\r\nTuningi Safari Lodge can accommodate 16 (sixteen) guests in exclusive villas and the lodge itself has been designed in such a way that it can be divided for families, intimate groups or VIP’s in search of utter privacy - a concept that is unique to Tuningi. All rooms at Tuningi and Little Tuningi have air conditioning, ceiling fans, gas fireplaces, en-suite bathrooms, beautifully appointed baths, outdoor rock showers and private wrap around wooden decks. The design brief was to create space by blending interiors with the bush through utilising retractable doors and windows wherever possible.
\r\nSAFARIS
\r\nThe private and exclusive, Tuningi Safari Lodge offers both local and international guests a superior product enhanced by an impressive Big 5 safari experience. Tuningi’s game rangers are of course highly qualified but more than this they have a skill for making guests feel passionate about the environment and wildlife while offering a unique opportunity for those willing to be educated on many aspects of wildlife and bush etiquette either on foot, for those brave enough, or in 4x4 open air vehicles. Lion, elephant, buffalo, white and black rhino, leopard and the rare and endangered wild dog are only some of the unique sightings to experience during your stay.

Imagine the Africa of the great safari era, when blazing sunsets melted into lantern lit romance and service was an effortless whisper. This is the Africa you will experience at Sabi Sabi''s Selati Camp, an award winning luxury game lodge in South Africa.
\r\nDuring the 1870''s, high in the crevices of the Drakensberg escarpment which rises to the west of Sabi Sabi, gold was discovered. To transport the gold, the parliament of the Old Transvaal Republic commissioned a railway line from the interior to Delagoa Bay in Mozambique. A branch railway known as the Selati Line crossed the Sabi Sand Reserve.
\r\nToday the line is disused but the old railbed can still be seen in the north-eastern section of Sabi Sabi, close to Selati Camp. Sabi Sabi''s intimate all-suite Selati Camp is the most unforgettable of all African experiences. It offers the perfect accommodation for travellers looking for a romantic luxury safari lodge in South Africa. Selati is furnished with a historic railway theme and colonial charm and is meticulously created as an authentic home in the bush. The railway theme extends from the original steam engine name plates, signals and shunter''s lamps lighting the way to your suite, to interesting memorabilia and other collector''s pieces in each room.
\r\nOriginally created without electricity to preserve the ambience, Selati Camp has now installed overhead fans, air-conditioning and all the trimmings expected from a luxury safari lodge. Nights at Selati are quiet, intimate and possessed of a rare magic. Under the spectacular canopy of the Southern night sky the camp is still romantically lit by the gentle flicker of oil lamps and lanterns, and the warm glow of fires.
\r\nFashioned in a colonial "Out of Africa" style, this exclusive lodge comprises eight opulent thatched suites, each with full bathroom en-suite and private alfresco shower nestled under majestic indigenous trees. World-class cuisine is served on wooden thatched decks built alongside the Msuthlu riverbed, in the open air "boma" or in the "farmhouse kitchen".
\r\nThe premier accommodation at Selati Camp is the sumptuous and spacious Ivory Presidential Suite, which is a favourite amongst Kings, Queens, and those just looking for exceptional accommodation. It offers colonial grandeur in the form of original antiques, a draped four-poster bed, private terrace, and fireplace. The magnificent en-suite bathroom, complete with Persian carpet and antique chaise-lounge, also features a very private plunge pool. The separate dressing room features an antique wardrobe and matching dressing table.
\r\nThe Lourenco Marques Suite is a must for honeymooners or the romantic at heart. Whether it is the fragrant flower petals strewn on the exquisite bed linen, or the candles illuminating the bathroom on return from the evening safari, a stay in this romantic suite will always be remembered.Sabi Sabi''s Selati Camp combines turn of the century elegance with personalised safari luxury - a rare experience.

Kapama River Lodge is situated within Kapama Game Reserve, and presents the perfect blend between luxurious safari accommodation and a generous bed capacity of 42 bedrooms. \r\n
Lodge
\r\nEach spacious room at Kapama River Lodge features a full en-suite bathroom and terrace with uninterrupted views into the leafy-green Big 5 game reserve.
\r\n
Accommodation
\r\nSuites
\r\nKapama River Lodge features 40 spacious air-conditioned suites, with modern yet distinctly African furnishings and log-beam ceilings under a golden thatch. Step onto your private balcony with an iced drink from your mini bar, and while away free time looking lazily into the bush for animals that may pass by. There’s tea and coffee at your disposal too. Bathrooms are all en-suite with his and hers basins, bath and shower, complimentary toiletries and lotions and fluffy white towels.
\r\n
Dinning
\r\nKapama River Lodge extends itself with three different dining venues:
\r\nRhino Boma is the most popular buffet dinner venue where a delicious variety of dishes is eaten under an open-sided thatch around a crackling fire.
\r\nThe Riverbed is a romantic place to dine, with a star-studded African night sky above you and the sand of the dry riverbed beneath you.
\r\n
Lounge
\r\nAfrican pots, stools and artefacts grace the illuminated recessed alcoves in the L-shaped lounges and bar of Kapama River lodge. Chairs are softly upholstered in reds and golds and the high yellow thatch reflects a warm light back into the beamed lounges. A wide chimney divides each lounge area, and the dual-facing fireplaces throws light and warmth into all areas.
\r\nWooden-framed glass concertina doors can be pulled closed to keep it cosy or opened up completely for views beyond the rim-flow pool into the sandy riverbed. A special feature of Kapama River Lodge is the straw-clad plaster walls, helping to seamlessly merge the inside with the outside.

Apart from some French Champagne, all the wines and Cape Classique sparkling are from South Africa’s finest Cape vineyards; Meerlust Rubicon, Veenwouden and Boschkloof Merlot, Graham Beck Shiraz, Nitida pinotage and fine vintage Chardonnays, Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin Blanc.

This area is also adapted for small conferences of 20 delegates or less, with breakaway rooms seating 8-10 people.
\r\n
Activities
\r\nKapama Game Reserve is so well positioned, not too far from habitation but still deep in the bush, enabling us to offer a truly superior range of activities. Two game drives per day and an optional bush walk is included in the all-inclusive Kapama safari package. All other activities are not included and will charged as extras.
\r\nHere’s a quick guide to what’s on offer, then read on for all the exciting details of each option:
\r\nGame drives
Wellness Center
\r\nThere is much anticipation about the opening of Kapama Wellness Centre at River Lodge in 2008. You will be able to exercise in a 17-meter long, heated swimming pool, an air conditioned gym, heat up in the steam room and lie back and relax in four treatment rooms offering a range of tantalising treatments.
